Hello, I’m Esther Hio-Tong Castillo, PhD. (she/her)
Trained as an urban sociologist. Seasoned educator. Passionate about social justice across marginalized communities.
A warm welcome to you! I am a scholar/educator and community advocate with expertise in diversity equity and inclusion (DE&I) matters at the intersection of gender, race, sexuality and immigration status. I have nearly two decades of working experience in education as a teacher, counselor, community advocate and faculty in various educational settings, including early childhood education, youth programs, adult education and higher education.
I’m a proud biracial queer woman, first-generation college student and 1.5 generation immigrant. My identity and life story has strengthened my dedication to making education accessible and equitable across underserved and marginalized communities, including immigrant, youth, womxn, queer, Asian, Black, and Latinx communities.
Are you trying to gain more concrete understanding about social-justice issues or to develop equity-centered practices? Let’s talk.
